Inputs and finish line

Prepare an image you can use, a short story beat, access to a suitable video generator and a place to save versions. Decide whether the destination needs speech, captions or a silent loop. This workflow does not publish to TikTok or promise reach; its output is a checked local file ready for your own upload decision.

The finish line is a playable portrait video whose subject, motion, text and sound survive the final export. An attractive still with only a camera zoom may be a useful editorial choice, but it does not establish that the requested character or object motion happened.

1. Prepare the source

Use the clean original and remove private information. Choose a portrait crop that keeps the subject and planned movement inside the frame. If the image is landscape, decide whether to reframe in an editor or preserve it inside a portrait canvas. Avoid stretching it.

Worked plan: a paper sailboat moves gently across a shallow tray while its reflection stays coherent. A six-second clip needs one small forward motion and a stable end. The cover is an illustration of this concept, not a rendered result or a performance benchmark.

2. Build a motion brief

Open the AI Video Prompt Composer. Describe the boat, one forward movement, locked camera, soft daylight and stable tray edges. Divide the duration into a short hold, movement and settle. State which details must remain unchanged, including the sail, reflection and water boundary.

For a person instead, use the Performance Prompt Builder to define the visible reaction. Edit the assembled prompt so it contains one coherent action. Use a supported negative field only if the generator offers it.

3. Generate and keep a record

  1. Confirm that the chosen model supports the reference and intended output ratio. Check its current terms, limits and asset handling.
  2. Save the submitted prompt, source crop, model/version, settings and render together.
  3. Start with a small short test rather than committing a whole sequence before seeing the motion.
  4. Do not hide failed attempts when evaluating the workflow. Note what changed between revisions.

4. Review before making the delivery copy

Watch at normal speed, then scrub the boat, sail and reflection through the movement. Inspect the first and last frames and any brief deformation between them. If the boat changes shape, simplify the action or repair the source before trying more dramatic camera movement.

For a speaking character, also compare lips with the actual sound. For a loop, replay the boundary several times; matching attractive endpoints alone does not prove a smooth transition. Use the linked quality-review workflow for a complete pass.

5. Compress and fit 9:16

Keep a master. Open the Browser Video Compressor with the approved short MP4/WebM. Choose 9:16, a useful maximum edge and an available output encoder. The tool fits the whole picture with bars when required; it does not automatically crop or improve composition. Keep the tab visible during its real-time export.

The tool accepts up to 200 MB input and up to 60 seconds per export, with browser-dependent encoders and approximate trimming. Check actual bytes after downloading; a target-size estimate is not a guaranteed ceiling. Use a dedicated editor for exact cuts or a more complex portrait layout.

6. Complete the delivery check

Play the downloaded file at phone size. Confirm ratio, dimensions, duration, sound and readable captions. Check that destination interface overlays will not obscure the important action. Platform upload rules depend on the actual route and account, so use the compression article as a starting point and confirm current destination requirements before uploading.

Frequently asked questions

Does this workflow upload to TikTok?

No. It prepares and checks a local delivery file. Publishing remains your separate action.

Will choosing 9:16 crop the subject?

The browser tool fits the complete image with bars. Reframe in an editor when a different composition is needed.

Can a short clip skip the quality check?

No. A few seconds can still contain a face, text, audio or continuity failure.
