Browser Video Compressor

Prepare a short MP4 or WebM for sharing. Resize, fit a new aspect ratio, remove sound or extract WAV audio on your device.

Choose your video

MP4 or WebM · up to 200 MB input · up to 60 seconds per export. Files are not uploaded. Encoding runs at playback speed; keep this tab visible.

No video loaded.

Your complete picture is fitted inside the selected frame with black bars when needed. No automatic crop or generative reframing.

Checking browser encoders…

Inspect your export

Video is re-encoded at up to 30 FPS. This is a browser encoder, so exact size, frame timing and codec support vary by browser.

Choose a video to begin.

How to get a smaller file

  1. Choose a clip and trim range. Load a supported file, then keep only the useful part. Trim boundaries are approximate to browser playback/frame timing; inspect both ends.
  2. Reduce dimensions before crushing quality. Try a 720-pixel longest edge for previews or 1080 for delivery. The tool preserves the full image with letterboxing if the ratio changes.
  3. Choose bitrate or a target. Smaller quality uses a lower bitrate. A target size estimates a bitrate budget; it cannot guarantee a hard upload limit. Check the downloaded byte size.
  4. Export with the tab visible. Processing takes roughly the selected playback duration. Switching tabs stops a video export so a throttled tab does not silently produce a broken result.
  5. Play the file. Check sound, lip sync, text, gradients and the first and last frames. If the export grew, lower the quality or resolution. Keep your original.

Choose an output for the destination

MP4 for broad sharing

Use MP4 when this browser offers it and your destination accepts its encoded video and audio. The format is disabled if the browser reports no encoder. A successful support check still cannot guarantee that a resource-heavy export will succeed.

WebM for compatible web players

WebM is useful for browser previews and web delivery. Check the destination before sending it to a social uploader or editing app. A container extension alone does not determine codec compatibility.

Changing 16:9 to 9:16 here adds a portrait frame around the complete image. For a full-screen portrait edit, recompose or crop carefully in an editor rather than cutting off faces or captions automatically.

Sound and trim

Remove audio exports a video with no audio track. Extract audio as WAV decodes a supported audio track, uses your selected start/end range and creates an uncompressed 16-bit PCM WAV. WAV can be much larger than the compressed source; it is for editing, not video compression.

A silent video or unsupported audio codec cannot produce a useful WAV. The tool reports a decoding failure instead of inventing a soundtrack. Output timing follows browser playback and may differ slightly from the requested trim. Use a desktop editor for frame-accurate cuts, long recordings, HDR mastering or multichannel audio.

Privacy and limits

  • File processing uses your browser's Canvas, MediaRecorder and Web Audio APIs. No video-generation service, server upload, remote codec package or paid API is used.
  • Input files remain on your device. Normal site analytics and cookies are covered by the privacy policy; this tool does not send file contents or names to analytics.
  • Maximum input: 200 MB. Maximum selected duration: 60 seconds. Keep the tab visible and your device awake during video export.
  • This tool does not upscale detail, preserve HDR metadata, guarantee a size limit or make a low-quality source sharper. Re-encoding can introduce artifacts.
  • Use only videos and audio you own or have permission to process.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded?

No. The selected file is read through a local browser object URL. Encoding and WAV extraction run on your device.

Why is MP4 disabled?

Your browser did not report an available MP4 encoder. Try a current Chrome or Edge version, or export WebM if your destination supports it.

Why is the new file larger?

The source may already use a more efficient codec or a lower bitrate. Try the Smaller preset, fewer pixels or a shorter range. A target size overrides the quality bitrate.

Is this lossless or frame-accurate?

No. Video export re-encodes frames at up to 30 FPS. Browser playback controls the trim, so inspect the resulting timing. Use a dedicated editor for exact cuts or archival masters.
