An APK mixes code, resources, manifest declarations and signatures. Start by asking which part answers your question. JADX helps read DEX code in a Java-like view, while Apktool is useful for decoded resources. REA documents an Android workflow around a headless JADX engine. Static findings still need careful interpretation, and device behavior requires a separate authorized test.
Separate the layers
Record the APK version and hash, then inspect its manifest and package structure. A manifest declaration tells you what the package declares, not whether a component actually runs or whether an unresolved resource has the value you expected. Resource tables, DEX code and bundled native libraries each answer different questions.
Use JADX when the question concerns methods, references or Java-like control flow. Use Apktool when the question concerns decoded resources and application packaging. A decompiler's readable output is an interpretation of bytecode; verify crucial branches against the underlying instructions or a controlled observation.
Move to behavior deliberately
A device or emulator adds state, permissions and external services that static inspection cannot fully establish. Capture a small, repeatable scenario and note the Android version, app build and test account. Dynamic instrumentation can inspect a running process, but it requires the right environment and permission to examine the target.
REA's documented Android package path depends on headless JADX and a full JDK. Its separate ADB and resource paths have different prerequisites. Check the installed REA release and connected tool list before assuming a feature described on the repository's main branch is available locally.
