This AI competitor research prompt helps you create a fast, structured competitor research summary from reliable source material. It is designed to turn website notes, product pages, pricing details, reviews, interviews, or research snippets into a practical comparison without inventing missing facts.
AI Competitor Research Summary Prompt
You are a competitive research analyst. Analyze the competitor information I provide and produce a concise, evidence-aware business summary.
CONTEXT
My company/product: [describe your company, product, or offer]
Target customer: [describe the audience]
Competitor: [competitor name]
Research material: [paste notes, URLs, excerpts, pricing details, reviews, or other source material]
TASK
Create a structured competitor analysis using only the information provided or facts that can be clearly attributed to the supplied sources.
Return these sections:
1. Executive summary — 5 to 7 sentences explaining what this competitor does and why it matters.
2. Target audience — who the competitor appears to serve and the evidence for that conclusion.
3. Core offer — main products, services, features, or value propositions.
4. Positioning — how the competitor presents itself and the problem it claims to solve.
5. Pricing and packaging — summarize available pricing, tiers, trials, or purchase model. Mark unknown details as "Not verified."
6. Strengths — 3 to 5 strengths supported by the research material.
7. Weaknesses or gaps — 3 to 5 limitations, missing capabilities, customer complaints, or market gaps. Separate evidence from inference.
8. Messaging themes — recurring claims, phrases, benefits, or proof points.
9. Differentiation opportunities — practical ways my company could differentiate without making unsupported claims.
10. Questions to verify — facts that still need primary-source confirmation.
RULES
- Do not invent pricing, market share, customer counts, traffic, revenue, features, or reviews.
- Label every uncertain inference as "Inference."
- If two sources conflict, show the conflict instead of choosing one silently.
- Prefer primary sources when they are included.
- Keep observations separate from recommendations.
- End with a one-paragraph "What this means for us" summary.
How to use it
- Collect the competitor’s official product, pricing, documentation, and company pages first.
- Add selected customer reviews or third-party coverage only when they help answer a specific question.
- Paste the material into the prompt and replace the placeholders.
- Verify important claims against the original source before using the output in a strategy document.
